January 11th, 2024 - Medical Microinstruments, Inc.(MMI), an Italian manufacturer of surgical robots, announced a partnership agreement with ab medica, a distributor of robotic technology platforms, aimed at driving the global commercialization of its Symani surgical robotic system. ab medica is Italy's leading robotic technology The partnership will increase MMI's visibility in Italy and expand access to Symani microsurgical robotics for healthcare providers and patients.
Symani surgical robotic system expands its reach further
Nicola Matz, MMI's vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said ab medica has been at the forefront of surgical robotics and is a highly trusted resource for innovative companies and healthcare providers. This partnership will further expand the reach of the Symani Surgical Robotics System, providing additional care options for patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema or head and neck cancer. Healthcare providers already affiliated with ab medica will have the opportunity to seamlessly connect with the Symani Surgical System to meet their growing surgical needs.
Symani Surgical Robotics
The Symani Surgical Robotics System utilizes first-of-its-kind robotic technology to address the scale and complexity of microsurgery and ultramicrosurgery in an original way. The system allows surgeons to replicate the natural movements of the human hand on a microscopic scale, providing better treatment options for patients requiring open soft tissue surgery, including free flap reconstruction, lymphatic surgery, trauma reconstruction, and peripheral nerve repair surgery. The system is designed to improve patients' quality of life, increase the number of surgeons able to push the boundaries of complex surgery to perform fine dissection, and give hospitals the opportunity to expand surgical programs.
The Symani Surgical System is a flexible platform consisting of two robotic arms that can be easily positioned for surgical procedures in any anatomical area. The system features 7-20X motion scaling and tremor filtering to meet the demands and complexities of microsurgery and ultramicrosurgery. This powerful combination allows surgeons to perform their hand movements while seamlessly connecting to the proprietary NanoWrist robotic micro-instrumentation.
The main advantages of the Symani surgical robot include:
1. Accuracy: The Symani Surgical Robot is extremely precise and can perform precise operations at the micron level. This is important for minimally invasive procedures that require extreme precision.
2. Flexibility: The Symani Surgical Robot's arms are designed to be flexible and mimic the natural movements of the human hand, making surgical procedures more fluid and natural.
3. Stability: The Symani Surgical Robot maintains a high degree of stability during the surgical procedure, reducing the risk of human-induced surgery.
4. Vision system: The Symani surgical robot is equipped with a high-definition 3D vision system, which provides a clear view of the surgical field and helps the surgeon to perform better surgical operations.
5. Education and training: The Symani Surgical Robot can also be used for physician education and training to help physicians improve their surgical skills.
6. Improve efficiency: The Symani surgical robot can help doctors to improve the efficiency of surgery, reduce the operation time, and improve the efficiency of the use of the operating room.
7. Reduce fatigue: Symani Surgical Robot can reduce doctors' workload, reduce doctors' fatigue, and improve doctors' work efficiency.
Filippo Pacinotti, business director of ab medica, said the company is committed to advancing innovative technologies in the operating room and is pleased to partner with MMI. The collaboration will significantly enhance the company's portfolio of products that utilize robotic technology to perform complex, minimally invasive surgeries, allowing for the precise reconstruction of small blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic vessels using the world's smallest wrist-mounted surgical instruments.
ab medica
ab medica provides solutions for medical robotics in a wide range of specialties. Since its founding in 1984, the company has consistently provided training, clinical support and technical services to ensure that physicians and staff at the point of care have the resources they need to optimize their medical technology capabilities.
MMI, Inc.
Founded in 2015 in Pisa, Italy, MMI is dedicated to the development of surgical robotic systems.MMI is guided by a group of experienced investors and professionals, and following an initial round of funding from Sambatech Angel Investors, on April 18, 2018 MMI closed an additional €20 million (Rs. 140 million) Series A funding round, led by Andera Partners, led by Panakes Partners and followed by Fountain Healthcare. In October 2020, MMI received financial support from the European Union, signing a financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for up to €15 million (approximately Rs. 107 million) for future years of long-term development.
